Man there’s a lot of firmware upgrades in this apt-get update! Almost impressive considering it’s a model 1 raspberry pi.
@matigo Caught wind of some half-panic at work as well, despite being on vacation. I’ll deal with that headache next year.
@matigo Ah, there’s where that came from. You know, I was always wondering why the Palm devices never got Wi-Fi until they did.
Still to this day I am tempted to pick up one of the last models, like the T5.

@matigo I sincerely hope nothing is running any bit of Java actively anywhere on any of my devices. I don’t do that kind of stuff voluntarily. And my Minecraft server has been offline since I moved to the new apartment, so that’s a bit away from being active.
@matigo If memory serves, Rubinstein was well aware of the iPhone ambitions before he left Apple. Dude did seem to genuinely love the webOS devices and everything around them though, all the way up until HP fudged everything up.

Getting some apt-get update on before heading out with some recycling activities. Oh the exciting life I lead.
@matigo Yep, that is one of the articles on the topic that I remember. Same basic story as all the ones I’ve read; HR/t he company says one thing, and the employee/the person has to do.
Fine.
But to this degree I suspect is just counterproductive and won’t end up resulting in quality. No matter how comprehensive the company training, they’re effectively saying that whatever university education people have, it’s irrelevant and they’re just tabula rasa in their corporate matrix.
It’s so very much in line with the cyberpunk world I know from fiction that it’s downright scary.
My NASA is a bit closer to home; Ericsson! Not really up to NASA awesomeness per se, but they do some neat things. And I just love the Erlang thinking. 🙂
@matigo Indeed. I have been fairly disinterested in a few of my past jobs, but I’ve always wanted to improve things. You know, actually given a crap about what I’ve done. If people don’t even have that level of commitment, I dunno.
Reminds me of several articles about programmers in Japan I’ve read over the years. I mean, I get it that some people get hoisted into the profession and they barely have a rudimentary understanding of how computers work, but the level of not giving a shit just frightened me.
@phoneboy Happy Holidays! Dunno about my heart, but my belly sure is full of Christmas food. 🎅
