@jussipekonen Neato! I helped one of the neighbors install something like that a while back. Seemed quite clever and useful. Perhaps I’ll consider one soon.
@variablepulserate Definitely! There’s some really shoddy work been done at some point in the past, not sure if it was the previous inhabitants or earlier. Lots of details need touching up, the kitchen needs some re-engineering and I’ll replace the stove some time this year, the toilet could do with a complete renovation, and I need to do something about the bathtub leaking.
And it’s still a great place despite all these nitpickings, and in a very nice area. Dunno if I can increase the value like the old apartment, but I’ll happily live here with all the improvements I have planned. 😆
@variablepulserate I sure hope I can, if nothing else. Got plans for this apartment!
Finally bought a set of battery powered tools from Ryobi. Now I can get up to all those DIY projects I’ve been putting off.
@matigo That does sound interesting. Shame about the boot loader, though. Perhaps there’s something some clever hacker has figured out to correct that design oversight.
I’ll try to remember it for next visit! 👍
So anyways. Jellyfin has proven to be a very functional alternative to Plex or Emby. Once it decided to cooperate (and actually start up), I have managed to get my main media library catalogued and had its metadata corrected. Almost as good as what I had tinkered up with a stand-alone Kodi installation, but with a bit more work I think this will be the superior solution.
For one, I can now have user level control over available content, which I think can come in handy as I unless this on the kids. Don’t think either the wife or me will be happy to have them watch Re-animator, Nightmare on Elm Street (original or remake), or any of the other movies in my collection that really doesn’t cater to young minds.
Together with the Apple TV app Infuse, this works excellently on the bigger screen in the living room, as well as on any personal device. Snappier than my Raspberry Pi 3 with Kodi, that’s for sure, but also an unfair comparison. I’ll probably put a Pi 4 on back burner, ready to be tossed into active use in case the Apple TV decides to go tits up, or Infuse decided to become crud.
So far this has potential to be one of the best upgrades in my media life, and I foresee the next big thing to be an Automated Ripping Machine, but that will take some more planning and thinking.
@matigo I have the 8 Plus as my work phone, so I’m note entirely unused to the huge bricks people like to toss around on a daily basis. But I still much rather have got smaller models, preferably as close to the original SE as possible in seize. My hands, unfortunately, do not keep increasing in size to match new smartphones, nor to my pockets. 😆
@peemee That’s a darn fine machine too. I’d get the one with the biggest storage space, because of course I would.
