Too late to have coffee now, but it sure shouldn’t be bad!
@matigo To be absolutely fair, it was weird under Vista as well. Same problem, so I don’t think we can blame Ubuntu on this particular case.
Will try to dig in the BIOS and see if there’s any oddities. Should be set to Asia/Japan in the time zone. Double checked that a while back.
At least with the USB connected WiFi adapter I bought it’s not Broadcom, but RAlink, which apparently has nicer Linux support. 🙂
@matigo Well worth thinking about.
It’s really weird as all other decides have no problems seeing the network and connecting to it, but this machine has big issues. Investigating if there are some funny setting in the reputed for now.
@matigo I’ll be mucking around in text only, so I’ll use even less resources. 🤣
Now if this WiFi connection would only cooperate!
And yes, since it’s a 32-bit machine it’s now soon on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, until I upgrade a bunch of things to make it a tad more modern.
So far things are working ok, although I’ll have to make sure the in-laws router isn’t doing something completely bonkers. Keeps dropping the connection, which is weird since no other device does.
@matigo All depending on how loosely you define the concept of “fun”, of course.
@matigo Tell me about it! My absolute favorite problem is the intermittent one. You never know when it’ll appear again, and you can never tell how long it’ll be around when it does come ‘a knockin’.
And with a working internet connection, Rufus has absolutely no problems putting Ubuntu on the USB drive. 😎
