@matigo I suspect that’s just the department next door.

@matigo Oh they do. They also have a very large monitoring facility that keeps close tabs on all computers and connections on the internet, instantly able to find a virus infected machine.

@matigo I dictate all my texts to my personal secretary; ms. A Utocorrupt

@matigo Pure speculation on my behalf, but I’d think it’s a hamfisted way of reducing the support burden. If people have fewer ways to fuck up their device, there’s not going to be a myriad of phone calls to the company support hotline, which will undoubtedly stretch already thin resources.
Because the support of any device is apparently the first and most logical thing to cut down on if you are a company that makes decides. Yeah, I don’t pretend to understand it, companies are weird things.

@variablepulserate Haven’t had much of a chance to explore in depth yet. Judging from what others have dug up, I can at least disable most security fetuses and boot whatever I want, as long as it’s 32-bit.
/@matigo
@matigo Yeah, some weird Intel quirk, apparently. Sucks to have a 64-bit capable machine limited artificially to 32-bit, but what can you do.
There aren’t many of the bigger name distributions still doing 32-bit, but quite a few enthusiast variants are still keeping the 32-bit flames fanned. PuppyLinux has been a very successful test on my old Kohjinsha laptop.
@matigo Yeah, I know. But fortunately this tablet is a bit held back by efi limitations, so you can only run 32-bit operating systems on it.
Now to get Linux installed somehow…
So I got a brand new in box 7” x86 tablet computer for very little. Not exactly a speed demon, but a 4-Core atom cpu and Windows 8.1 is a starting point at least.
Now to install some retro games!
@peemee I know exactly what you mean! Wasn't until today that I had to refill some washer liquid and that's when I realised the darn thing wasn't opening. Most vexing, but fortunately it looks like it can be fixed relatively easily once the necessary part arrives.
