Not surprised about the inefficiencies you found in the off-the-shelf LMS, sadly. I've been parroting the phrase "most modern software developers have no respect for the hardware and its limitations", and it's becoming PAINFULLY obvious with each new system I need to touch, specially in the line of work.
@matigo It's pleasant in most of mainland Japan at this time of the year, specially to my Northern European self. Heck, I'll even take the silly thing they call winter in Osaka some days, pathetic as that thing is.
