Two episodes in, and it strikes me as somewhat of a mix between some elements of both TOS and TNG with attempts at linking the timeline from ENT up until TOS, dipped in a (to me) unpleasant J.J. Abrams coat.

I have enjoyed the actors work and the characters are reasonably interesting, given the short amount of time so far. Not quite buying into the backstory of Michael, given the rest of Star Trek lore, but I’m a bit nitpicky about stuff like that.

Klingon revamp isn’t as jarring as I thought it would be, but it sure is a big change. Core elements are certainly there, but they are different in many ways.

I’ll have to give it some more time. These two first episodes are just an introduction, a setting of the scene, if you will. Perhaps it will come into its own right once we are aboard the actual U.S.S. Discovery.
