I don’t think there was any serious attempts made at porting webOS over to the Playbook, but I might have missed it.

Originally webOS was only on the Palm smartphones called Prē and Pixi, later after HP bought Palm also on a short lived line of tablets called the HP Touchpad. Once the idiot CEO of HP at the time; Léo Apotheker was done destroying everything the team at Palm created, HP sold off webOS to LG, which basically only put it on their TVs… I know, the logic is amazing. But before they sold it off, HP at least made a large part of webOS open source, and the interesting project called LuneOS started porting the system to other hardware. The usual suspects of Nexus 4 and Nexus 7 devices were supported from day one, if I remember correctly.

After LG being LG and couldn’t figure out what to do with webOS, they put it all up as open source (again?), but little has come from that yet that I know of.

Right now, the best way to experience webOS is still on the old Prē 2 or Prē 3, or on the HP Touchpad. Prices are all over the place, and I have not been able to find a HP Touchpad I’m willing to pay for.

Just let me know if you are wondering anything about this. Kind of a small passion of mine. 😁
