I believe you are right there. After version 2.0 there was the biggest falling out between Microsoft and IBM, and they went with their own separate software projects.

If I wasn’t such a cheapskate I’d buy a license of ArcaOS, just for shits and giggles.

Unfortunately, I have a fear that it would also lead to various defects like fast swelling batteries, undersized batteries, defective cells being used, and perhaps even more battery explosions.

I’m not saying it’s guaranteed to happen with 3rd party batteries, and I’m also not saying that Apple’s own stuff is free of faults, but I kind of like some level of control for this.

Then again, what’s to stop one from hiring a non-Apple approved place to have a battery replacement? Won’t there just be one warning text in the battery page under settings? Unless I remember wrong, there’s no other penalty.

If nothing else, OS/2 was interesting because it was different. Very IBM different, but different none the less. 🙂

I’ll try to go OS/2 spotting in Japan next year. From what I gather, there is the largest install base there, still active.
